10 Safety Life Hacks That Can Help You Every Day

When we’re at home, going shopping, or leaving for a vacation we all want to feel safe. Even if you are sure that the area you live in is the most secure, there is always a chance of an unexpected crime. Luckily house robberies and pickpocketing can be prevented if you know how to stay alert and use some simple tricks.

1. Secure your purse while grocery shopping.

“When using a shopping cart, as you browse through the store, keep your purse zipped or closed and secure it to the cart by clipping the child safety belt through the strap(s),” the Windham Police Department wrote on Facebook. “This will help in preventing someone from taking advantage of your distraction and running off with the purse.”

This is more simple than it seems: you can even improvise and use a cheap carabiner clip to secure your bag, if the cart doesn’t have a belt.

2. Use unexpected objects to hide your money in while traveling.

While traveling, in case you get robbed or leave your wallet somewhere, you should always carry some extra cash with you. The best way to hide it is inside a small inconspicuous object. An old deodorant tube is a great example!

3. Carry a fake wallet.

When going out, always take a second wallet with you that’s fake. Put a little money, notes, and papers in there and keep it on you. Use it as a decoy for thieves. If someone pickpockets you, it won’t be such a problem. Your real wallet should stay in your inner pocket though.

4. Wear a crossbody to avoid purse snatching.

Loose bags, shoulder bags, and people who don’t hold their purses the whole time become easy targets for thieves who yank them from the victim’s shoulder or lap. This can be avoided by wearing a crossbody, since it’s harder to pull off. Don’t forget to keep a hand on your bag at all times and wear it in front of you.

5. Know your card cancellation numbers.

It’s very important that your card’s emergency numbers are separated from your cards. If you lose your card or it gets stolen, it won’t be a problem. You just simply call the Lost/Stolen card number and cancel the card before it can be used or before money can be withdrawn.

6. Don’t keep your spare keys in the mailbox.

Instead of using such an obvious place to hide your spare house keys, you can bury them in your backyard. This is simple and effective, you will need an empty medicine bottle and a stone for the top of it. Glue the stone on the bottle’s cap, put your keys inside and push the bottle all the way down in the ground, so that only the rock shows. Don’t forget where you buried it and what the rock looks like!

7. Always keep your yard neat, especially if you go on a trip.

An unkempt yard with overgrown shrubs and thick grass might be a sign to thieves that the owner hasn’t been home for some time. That’s why it’s important to keep the landscape as neat as possible all the time. If you go on a trip, you can hire someone to cut your grass and make your yard look nice.

8. Put package boxes away immediately.

Leaving used package boxes from your new TV or laptop can also signal to criminals which valuable items you have in your house. The best way to stay secure is to break down the boxes and throw them away immediately.

9. Display a “Beware of Dog” sign.

Put a “Beware of Dog” sign on your fence or in your front window, even if you don’t have a dog. This simple warning will make strangers think twice before entering your property and scare burglars as well.

10. Put away ladders, hammers, and other tools.

Many people leave their tools and ladders outside because they think they are safe. But this is a bad habit, because it puts their home security in danger. Hammers, chainsaws, screwdrivers, and axes give people different ideas and they are not always “friendly.” That’s why after working in the garden or fixing something, you should make sure you put everything out of sight and lock it.

15 Terrific Life Hacks That Can Help You Every Day

Life can be such a hassle at times, and unnecessarily so. Why sweat over tiny mishaps when there are more important things to think about? Thankfully, small problems only require small solutions.

1. Make your own car defrost solution.

Freezing cold winter mornings can be a nuisance, but this tip smooths out any wrinkles in your morning routine. Prepare your own defrost solution by mixing 1 part water and 2 parts rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle. Saves money and time.

2. Make a huge Ziploc bag from 2 smaller ones.

Need a big ziplock bag but only have a few smaller ones? It turns out that by turning one bag inside out, the 2 can be attached together and made into a single giant one. This is especially useful for packing for a move or a trip abroad.

3. Store plastic bags in a tissue box.

Raise your hand if you’re a plastic bag collector. Now there’s a clever organizing trick to store all those bags from various places which are perfect for recycling. Loop the bags through each other’s handles and stuff them into an old tissue box.

4. Fix broken wires in the blink of an eye.

Anyone with an abundance of electronics will understand this: wires can get broken, torn, and become messy. If you find 2 ends of your wires sticking out like this and have no way to solder them, wrapping them securely (as shown) will ensure that they’ll stay together.

5. Turn your plastic jugs into gardening tools.

Ever wondered what to do with old plastic jugs? It turns out that with a bit of tactical cutting and imagination, they make a great shovel or scoop in a pinch.

6. Organize your yarn once and for all.

This one is for those with a passion for knitting. To keep your yarn from getting tangled or unraveling too fast, drill a few tiny holes in the top of an old plastic container and turn it into your very own yarn holder.

7. Stop your computer from falling asleep.

It can be irritating when you’re working on something important, but don’t want to keep shaking your mouse to keep your computer awake. This ensures that your mouse is constantly registering movement, giving you more time to be productive.

8. Use cardboard boxes as cutting boards.

Who has time for dishes after a satisfying dinner? If you’re among the unlucky without the convenience of a dishwasher, a simple solution is found right in your recycling box. Any piece of clean cardboard will do the job!

9. Catch the dust from drilling with a post-it note.

Next time you need to get some drilling done, grab a post-it note and take it with you. Fold the end and stick it right under where you plan to drill. You’ll save time by not having to sweep the floor.

10. Put clear nail polish on a loose ring.

A ring that doesn’t quite fit can be awkward, especially if it happens to be of great personal value. There’s no need to get refitted or throw it away. A few strokes of clear nail polish on the inside of a loose ring will help to make it fit.

11. Photocopy an object you need to hang.

Whether you’re a beginner with a drill or a seasoned construction expert, this tip is a savior in a pinch. Never make a mistake and put Bob the Builder to shame by photocopying the item you would like to hang for the utmost precision.

4 Must-Follow Steps If You Want to Lose Your Beer Belly

One of the most thrifty parts of our body doesn’t like saying goodbye to its savings. However, there are exercises that can help you get in shape fast if you take the right approach.

Stage № 1. Reconsider your diet

Try to minimize the amount of sugar and carbohydrates in your diet: replace soda with tea, sweet scones with nuts and fruit, and sugar with honey. Eat more vegetables and fiber.

Stage № 2. Get rid of extra weight

Run 30 minutes a day and soon you will see positive changes in your shape. If it’s too hard for you to run 30 minutes in the beginning, you can walk and run. Running burns 2.5 times more calories than walking.

Swim at least 30 minutes 2-3 times a week. Choose the style and pace you like. The most important thing is to stay moving, because any exercises in water help you lose weight: one hour of intensive swimming can help you burn 500 calories.

Riding a bicycle is one of the basic exercises you can do if you want to lose weight. Do it 2-3 times a week at a comfortable pace.

Stage № 3. Strengthen your abs

Cardio exercises will help you lose extra weight but won’t make the belly absolutely flat. You need a complex approach where you can both lose weight and strengthen your muscles.

The Vacuum is a great exercise. In order to do it, just breathe out all the air in your lungs, pull your abdominals in toward your spine and hold your breath for 15-20 seconds. Repeat this 10 times, 3-4 times a day and a few weeks later, you’ll notice that your waist has gotten smaller.

Plank. A simple but very effective exercise. Do it 2-3 times a day for 30 seconds, gradually increasing the duration. Aside from burning calories and making the abs stronger, it also makes the posture better and relieves back strain.

Stage № 4. Get muscle relief

Crunches. These exercises will make your abs and your core stronger. Strengthening your core will take pressure off of your other muscle groups. Try different types of crunches in order to develop your abs.

Leg raise. Lie on your back and put your hands on the floor for balance. Slowly raise your legs 10-15 times. You will begin to notice progress in just 30 days.

5 Smart Life Hacks to Keep Your Belongings Safe on Vacation

Tourists are easy prey for thieves around the world because being in a new place together with meeting new people decreases our level of awareness. According to police statistics, more than 6,000 thefts are committed in Barcelona alone, per day. And these are only official statistics, we don’t know how many people don’t report a crime to law enforcement. In order to not be left in a different country without money and your documents, there are few simple rules you should follow.

5. Choose the right floor in a hotel.

Security experts recommend renting a hotel room on the 3rd to the 6th floors. It’s easier to get inside and then out of the rooms located on the lower floors. Burglars won’t require extraordinary skills to take your belongings out of the room unnoticed.

4. Pay attention to details.

Check whether the balcony door can be locked before checking in to a room. One of the most wide-spread methods of getting into a room is through a balcony door or a window. Bulgars from all over the world are well aware of this easy-to-perform break-in, that’s why you’d better pay attention to this seemingly unimportant detail. Also, always remember to lock the balcony door and the windows before leaving your hotel room.

3. Outwit the burglars.

Almost all robberies happen when you are not in the hotel room. Robbers watch to see if you lock the door and leave for the beach. After that, they open the door and take things out, having total confidence that you won’t be back anytime soon.

There is a little trick for how you can create the illusion that there is someone who stayed in the room. Keep the TV in your room on and put the “Do not disturb” sign on the doorknob before leaving. It will give the illusion that the room is not empty.

2. Use an alarm.

If you have to stay overnight in a public place like, for example, in a waiting area at a railway station, place an alarm on your backpack. The alarm will make a loud noise if someone tries to steal your belongings and scare off the robbers. The only thing you should be careful about is to not touch the backpack while you are sleeping, otherwise, a false alarm will take place, which will wake up all the people around you.

Additionally, if you tend to leave valuables in a hotel room in your backpack, the alarm will be useful in this case too. It’s not likely that the robbers will want to run around the hotel with a ringing backpack.

1. Don’t use the safe in the room.

Safes that are located in hotel rooms have a so-called “administrator’s mode.” If you lock it and make up a personal password but after enter the code 999999, the safe will open. It was made so that the administration of the hotel could take the contents out in case if some of the guests forget their password.

So, it’s better to not use these cases, but to keep your valuables at the reception desk instead. If you don’t want to do that, at least check to see whether the safe in your room unlocks with the “administrator’s mode” or not.
